true tales from my ostfront

i once worked at a company and liked a beautiful girl there.at the christmas party i was anxious to have a chance to talk to her w/ my stalwart ally:alcohol.however, my plans were thwarted by a noxious combination of 2-1 well drinks, her modest tolerance, and an assertive dominican from tech support named "angel".soon she was canoodling w/ him at the bar and i left in a huff.
however,
being unable to completely let go of my long-awaited opportunity, i hung back and chain smoked down the street for the better part of half an hour, until i saw the apple of my eye being carried down the street by two co-workers.they were annoyed at her boozy shenanigans and wanted no part in getting her across town to Penn Station and her home across the river in the garden state.i volunteered to escort her and they were only too happy to pawn her onto me.
she drunkenly clung to my side and muttered various complaints about her earlier performance and opined the lack of interest her on-again,off-again boyfriend showed her.i fumed steadily as it became clearer that this was as close to her as i would ever get.
we strode through grand central and made connections through the times square shuttle and the A train.with little fanfare we arrived at the track for her departing train and she unexpectedly looked up at me and thanked me for the company by planting a kiss on my lips.she then turned on her heels and disappeared down the walkway.
my head swum with elation.before i could come down to earth a homeless man asked me for any change i could spare.i dug into my pocket and said "i don't have any change.is $10 ok?"his eyes widened and exclaimed "man!can i get a hug?"i embraced this man and gave him an old-fashioned bear hug and wished him a merry christmas before beating a retreat back across town and home.
