america:land of opportunity

recently i've been wondering how the hell rip taylor makes a living.i mean, don't get me wrong, i think he's a national treasure.but the very notion of being famous for throwing confetti and being flamboyant is as vexing as it is laudable.
so at work we were talking about how bad wayne's world 2 was, except for rip taylor's small roll, and i started thinking what a fantastic nation this is where such a man can thrive.
it turned out that mr taylor(born Charles Elmer Taylor, Jr) was actually a fairly
straightforward stand up comedian in the 60s (and a prop one at that)!he didn't appear out of thin air w/ an awful toupee and handlebar mustache and pockets full of confetti.
here he is on the jackie gleason show, before he evolved into his classic look:
His schtick didn't truly manifest itself until later on in the decade.According to his wiki entry,"
...A much more successful gimmick started quite by accident in 1969 at Merv Griffin's show. Rip tore up a script on stage and threw the pieces in a fit of pique. The outburst got a huge audience reaction, prompting the comedian to assault the crowd with confetti at every performance."
unfortunately i cannot find a video that i can embed w/ him throwing confetti.booo.
but this video from super password of rip flipping out when the other celebrity blurts out the secret password is pretty lulz-y

and, to bring it back to the present, more or less, here is rip taylor's cameos at the ends of jackass the movie and its sequel, jackass 2.
note:the rip taylor parts are at the very end of both vids.
